Added

New API to find dependency cycles on a board

🏷️ API version: 2027-01

You can now ask the API which dependency cycles exist on a board. The new board_dependency_cycles query takes a board_id and returns the specific cycles in the board's dependency graph, so you can find the items involved and fix the links between them.

The query returns a BoardDependencyCyclesResult with these fields:

  • board_id: the ID of the board that was checked.
  • cycles: a list of DependencyCycle objects. An empty list means the board was checked and has no cycles.
  • truncated: true when the board has more cycles than the reporting cap allows, so the list is not complete.

Each DependencyCycle has a path, the ordered list of items that form the cycle. Every entry in the path is a CycleEdge:

  • item_id: the item that is part of the cycle.
  • predecessor_id: the item that this item depends on within the cycle.
  • type: the link type, as a new CycleEdgeType enum with the values FS (finish to start), SS (start to start), FF (finish to finish), SF (start to finish) and HIERARCHY (a parent/subitem link rather than a dependency). It is null when the stored link type is not recognized.

Example request:

query {
  board_dependency_cycles(board_id: 1234567890) {
    board_id
    truncated
    cycles {
      path {
        item_id
        predecessor_id
        type
      }
    }
  }
}
